Scarlett Johansson Skincare Secrets and Routine

I never go to bed with makeup on, even if I come home at 4 a.m.

My skin’s sensitive, so I have to use things without fragrance, like Cetaphil.

I never really use moisturizer. Someone once told me that it’s better to not use creams every day and just let your skin do its thing. I do use masks, though. I alternate between Jurlique’s Purifying Mask, which feels kind of leafy and organic but is really good, and a hydrating one like the Clarins HydraQuench Cream-Mask.

[Jurlique Purifying Mask] also works as a spot treatment.

My favorite thing in the entire world [Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Total Lip Treatment]. It feels like a million bucks.

I come from the sunblock generation, so I’ve never been one to cover myself in oil and sit out. I do try to get a little color when I’m on vacation, but I always wear a day cream with SPF.

I’ll do a face mask once a week. I usually mix and match depending on what my skin needs. If it’s irritated, I’ll use something with tea-tree oil.

After a 16-hour day under hot lights, I use the Eve Lom Cleanser with a hot towel. It feels thick but doesn’t leave a residue.

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser is my go-to face wash. Dolce and Gabbana Passion Duo Gloss Fusion Lipstick in Infatuation is a great red for any occasion, Frames! Hair Treatment Line Shampoo for Color Treated Hair maintains and protects my color.

My skin feels so congested when I travel. I drink a ton of water with lemon while I’m on board and steam my face as soon as I get off the plane.

I am a great believer in using natural products and drinking lots of water. Something I’ve discovered recently is actually using honey as a mask. I use Manuka honey. You just warm your face so that your pores are open (you can steam your face right after getting out of the shower), and then you just take a spoon and apply the honey directly to your face and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. It really adds an amazing glow and your skin is so soft afterwards. It pulls out the impurities—and it’s a nice foundation, especially if you are going to a big event where you want a great glow and you want to take that extra 15 minutes to do a treatment before you put your makeup on. It preps your skin in a really nice way.

Another great one that I like to do if my skin has been dull or has some red spots is using raw lemon. You can either dilute it with water if it’s a bit too stingy on your skin, or you can apply it directly. If you have a big event at the end of the week, do this every night before you go to bed for the five nights leading up to it and your skin is so much brighter. It’s amazing!

I do love a long soak in a hot bath, though. Oils such as lavender really help you to relax and leave all your worries behind.

I clean my makeup brushes once a week. People don’t realize how dirty their sponges and stuff are! Bacteria—that’s what makes you break out.

A lot of girls have a hard time applying red lipstick—it bleeds out and gets everywhere and can be a bit daunting. Start by tracing the outline of your lips with a corrector pencil that’s the color of a concealer. It keeps the lipstick from spreading and will do any necessary clean-up after you apply the color.

[I’m addicted to Dolce & Gabbana The Make Up Classic Cream Lipstick its a] really opaque lipsticks with a good consistency.

[Dolce & Gabbana The Make Up Perfect Finish Powder Foundation (in Creamy)] is almost like a three-in-one, so you don’t feel like you’re piling on foundation and powder and concealer.

[In my makeup bag you’ll find] Lancôme Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover, Redken Extreme Rescue Force Conditioner, Jurlique Purely Age-Defying Day Cream SPF 15, Dolce & Gabbana The Eyeshadow in Fortune, Dolce & Gabbana The Lipliner in Ruby and Dolce & Gabbana The Lipgloss in Ruby.

On the red carpet, I want my skin to glow and look perfect. I like Dolce & Gabbana’s products because the glosses aren’t sticky and the lipsticks aren’t drying.

If you plan to be out all night or eating dinner, bring a lip pencil with you to reshape and color in your lips, then throw a gloss on top. Otherwise, if you try to reapply lipstick in a dark bathroom, the shape just gets weirder and weirder.

I want my skin to look it’s absolute best [for important events]. I use a concealer to correct my skin, then add a few pumps of Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Luminous Liquid Foundation to my moisturiser. Afterwards, I spray with a rosewater toner to finish.”

When I know I’m going to be attending… parties and gatherings I like to wear a really elegant but provocative scent. I love The One which is floral, fruity and really classic.

I love to make my eyes really pop for New Year’s. It’s a sexy, festive look to ring in the New Year. The new Dolce & Gabbana Glam Liner is easy to apply and you can make the line as defined as you want without making a big mess!

For every day, I never wear foundation, just concealer. But for being photographed, it’s nice to even out your skin tone.

I always look at the golden age of Hollywood, the late 1940s and early ‘50s, for inspiration. I use bronzer a lot, even on my eyes, with a blush brush. If you sweep it across your whole eyelid, it falls into the crease in the right way. With a little mascara and defined brows, it’s very warm and nice.

Red lipstick can complete-or make-a look.

Pat McGrath knows how much I adore red lipstick, so she showed me how to apply it to perfection. It’s all about taking your time and letting the bullet of lipstick guide you from one side of the lip to the other to create a really full and neat look—that tip has been so invaluable to me!

My absolute must-have is a really rich and vibrant red lipstick. Dolce & Gabbana’s new Passion Duo range has a gorgeous shade called Infatuation, which is actually the shade Pat McGrath used on my lips for the [Fall] ad campaign. I always keep red lipstick in my bag because I never know when I might show up to an event and be completely under-dressed. I feel like red lipstick is the cure-all for everything.

A really good mascara is a key staple for me, too. The Secret Eyes Mascara in Black from Dolce & Gabbana creates the most flirty and glamorous lashes. I find that super-long lashes really widen the eyes and make them sparkle, and I really haven’t found another mascara that measures up to this one.

A dark eyeliner is another must-have in my make up bag. Dolce & Gabbana’s Eyeliner in Stromboli is a great black/brown shade with delicate gold sparkles that I love to wear in the evening.

…it’s nice to get color without having to sit out in the sun and ruin your skin, so I also use bronzer—I even use it on my eyelids at times!

I always like to put a little bit of makeup on. I’m not the kind of person that just slops around in sweatpants. I like to feel a little more together—you never know who you’re going to see out there! If I’m just going to the grocery store I would throw on a little concealer, a little mascara. I wear foundation if I know I’m going to be photographed, but day to day I don’t wear [it].

I also love doing my nails. I’ve always liked nail polish ever since I was a kid. I like red nail polishes. There’s a nice blue-red color that Dolce & Gabbana makes called Lover that’s really sweet on your toes. I usually wear either pink or nude on my nails. If you know that people are going to notice your nails—if you’re carrying a glass of Champagne or you’re talking using your hands, or you’re wearing open-toed shoes—it’s nice to have that complete look.

Scarlett Johansson Hair Secrets and Routine

I think my face looks more elegant when I wear my hair up. Although I have experimented a lot with hair colour I feel most myself when super, super platinum blond. I also went dark red for Iron Man 2- I don’t like to wear wigs!

I’m naturally blonde so I feel most like myself when I’m blonde. I’ve had a lot of different hair colors for films I’ve done, but I always go back to blonde.

…I really like to wear updos just because I think my face looks more elegant when I wear my hair up, but it depends on the event. If you’re going to something young and fun and you want to feel sexy, it’s nice to have your hair down and with a little bit of wave.

Scarlett Johansson Diet Secrets and Routine

Eating healthy and getting fit is about commitment, determination, consistency and the dedication to self-preservation.

I’ve never been considered a gym rat, I have, in fact, worked up a sweat in the name of cardio before, and although I enjoy a grilled cheese as much as the next person, I combine the not-so-good foods I crave with an all-around balanced diet.

I am big on baking, but I bake very healthily these days. I make a protein cookie where I substitute all the fatty ingredients with healthy ones, such as coconut oil and egg whites. I may add carob chips instead of chocolate chips. If I have one of those during the day I don’t feel so guilty!

I eat well and I walk a lot.

Scarlett Johansson Fitness Secrets and Routine

[When I’m not filming I] no longer need to rehash the 50 ways to lift a dumbbell, but [I] commit to working out at least 30 minutes a day and eating a balanced diet of fruit, vegetables and lean proteins. Pull ups, crunches, lunges, squats, jumping jacks, planks, walking, jogging and push ups are all exercises that can be performed without fancy trainers or gym memberships.

I feel better when I take a little time to focus on staying active.

I do yoga sometimes. And also living in the city, you do a lot of exercise and eat smartly.
